The Community Independent movement is Australia's answer to the right wing populists wreaking havoc around the world's democracies. Instead of following Trump into the swamp he so famously lied about draining, Australia has created a compelling option for people disillusioned with party politics to place their vote.
It looks and feels a lot like actual representative democracy, and shockingly it works! 7 Independents were voted in last election, with 35 competing to win in this election. People are re-learning that a viable alternative to the politics of division and hate is possible.
One such candidate is business woman, Kate Dezarnaulds, who is running for the seat of Gilmore on the south east coast of the country. Kate's supporters can add their smile to a Selfie Wall with an I'M VOTING FOR KATE overlay (new feature!) – then share that on their socials, change their profile pic and more.

Social proof is so important for independent campaigns, with advertising budgets a fraction of the size of the major parties, so this type of social campaigning can help cut through with an authentic community vibe.
